Crested Butte part 3

August 2025

Crested Butte has a way of pulling us back, and this summer trip was all about exploring trails we hadn’t touched yet.

We spent our days hiking deeper into the surrounding mountains — Ptarmigan Lake, Rustler Gulch, Lily Lake, Snodgrass, and Lost Lake on the drive home. Each trail offered something different, but the pattern stayed the same: early walks to get the dogs moving, longer hikes once everyone was settled, and unhurried evenings back in town.

One of the standout moments came while paddle boarding at Lake Irwin, where a bald eagle flew low across the water and landed nearby — one of those quiet, surreal moments that makes you stop and just take it in.

We’ve learned to balance bigger efforts with slower days, and Crested Butte makes that easy. Long trail days paired with simple town walks keep the pace right where we want it. Enough movement to feel alive, enough space to actually enjoy it.

It’s never about checking trails off a list. It’s about time outside, shared miles, and coming back to a place that always feels familiar — even when the routes are new.
